Malkolak Centre for Molecular Biology (M-CMB)

Malkolak-Centre for Molecular Biology (M-CMB), a constituent of M-ILS, focuses on molecular basis for biological activity resulting in cutting edge solutions in basic and applied research. The centre will actively interact with other areas of Biological disciplines such as Genetics, Biochemistry, Cell Biology and Biotechnology & Chemistry.

The activities of the Centre are being coordinated by Dr. Laxminarayana Burela (formerly Postdoctoral Research Fellow at NIH, University of Maryland and University of Hyderabad, Faculty, Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology & Scientist, Sudershan Biotech Ltd) as R&D Scientist of the Centre.

M-CMB’s main objective is to carryout advanced research in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology to develop commercially viable products/processes with a focus on recombinant proteins and new diagnostics/drugs for cancer.

  Proposed programmes of the M-CMB:
Conducting industry oriented training programs
Undertaking research projects having high commercial value and societal significance.
Offering contract research services to biotech industry and cademia.
Research opportunities for Doctoral and Postdoctoral fellows as a research affiliate of National and Foreign universities.
Protecting the IPR by applying patents at national and international level and publishing in peer reviewed journals
Conducting guest lectures and conferences at local, national and international level
Projects proposed to be undertaken:
1) Production of therapeutic drugs in yeast by recombinant DNA technology.
2) To develop anticancer drugs using advanced molecular approaches to target specifically cancer cells and molecular diagnostics using biomarkers to focus on early detection of cancer.
